Villa Sole Mio

A luminous pied-a-terre with a sparkling pool and palm trees at the end of a private street is a hideaway or year-round residence for seekers of the Good Life. Designed by the late New York and Cuernavaca architect Jose Mendoza, it reflects both of those places which influenced his work and art: large rooms created from small spaces, comfort and beauty, appreciation of Nature and trompe l`oeil were elements of a style which he mastered in this jewel. Before he built Villa Sole Mio, he fashioned a glorious, glamorous mansion in which the Mexican Diva, Doña Maria Felix, lived until her death, a property with the same feeling. A stunning, stylized chandelier casts soft light over the foyer and illuminates trompe l’oeil antique urns on the walls. The living room, with a fireplace, is large enough for several conversation areas and graceful arches open to the pool terraces where much of life in the Tropics is lived. A small terrace is handy for sun-bathers or a snack with friends, while thelarger terrace, off the dining room and seating six or eight, is a lovely spot for al fresco luncheons, dinners or midnight suppers. From the foyer, a curving staircase with an S-shaped railing that has the clean pure line of sculpture leads to sunny bedrooms on the upper level: two master bedroom suites, each with bath and fireplace, a third bedroom with bath, and a studio. In addition, an adjacent property is included, “Casa X,” with its own Privada entrance and by the same architect. With a brightly-decorated studio bedroom for two, bath, living room and small kitchen, it is an ideal set-up for overflow guests or independent rental unit.
